Aren't all religious writings the same?
No.
The Bible has a distinct construction
unlike any other book written in the history of mankind,
which uniquely sets it apart. (Proof Below)
Consider these facts about the construction of the Bible...
-It contains 66 books written by 40 different authors.
-The authors represent 19 different occupations.
(Fishermen, farmers, a king, a doctor, a tax collector, shepherds, etc.)
-The 66 books were written in two different languages.
(Hebrew & Greek)
-They were written in many different locations.
(Desert, Mt. Sinai, Palestine, Egypt, Isle of Patmos, Babylon, Persia, Corinth, Rome, etc.)
-They were written in many different styles.
(History, prophecy, biography, poetry, law, in letter form, doctrinal, proverbs, and symbolic. )
-The 66 books were written over the course of 1,600 years.
(Medical books from only 100 years ago contain many errors and discrepancies. )
someone could rationally conclude that the BIBLE
contains many gaping mistakes, errors, and contradictions.
Yet, what we actually find is a collection of books that ...
- fit together perfectly from beginning to end.
- have an all-encompassing message.
- contain no errors or contradictions.
- have a 400 year gap between the Old and New Testaments
(The 400 year gap means the authors of the two Testaments could not have collaborated with one another.)
The Bible's Accuracy vs. Other Historical Writings
Today there are almost 5,000 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament.
Maybe that doesn't seem like much?
consider this...
-There are only a few copies of the writings of Cicero, Virgil, or Sophocles.
-There is only one manuscript of Plato, 1,200 years later.
-There is only one copy of the historical writings of Herodotus, 1,500 years later.
Since there are so many manuscripts of the Bible, they can be compared for validity and accuracy. This could not be done if there was only one.
There is no other book like it.
Only a supernatural element could conceive such a collection of writings.
II Peter 1:21
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
